Mansarovar Park killings: 8th arrest made by police

A 24-year-old man, working as a sweeper in the Election Commission (EC), was arrested today for his alleged involvement in the killings of an octogenarian woman, her three daughters and their security guard in the Mansarovar Park area here in October, the police said today.
This was the eighth arrest in the case. Seven men were arrested last week for the brutal killings.
The accused, Rahul, was arrested by the Crime Branch this evening from Rajiv Garden, Loni, Ghaziabad, said G Ramgopal Naik, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime).
The police also seized Rs 15,000 cash and bloodstained clothes from his possession.
The accused was working as a sweeper at the EC building here on a contractual basis.
The killings were carried out with an intention to commit robbery and the alleged mastermind of the plan was the security guard, who too was killed by his son and son-in-law.

Jewellery worth Rs 30-40 lakh and Rs 14 lakh cash were stolen from the victims' house, the police had earlier said.
After a thorough interrogation, the security guard's son-in-law, Vikas, had confessed to his involvement in the killings.
Vikas was arrested by the police, following which Rakesh's son, Anuj (25), and their associates -- Sunny (22), Vikash alias Vicky, Neeraj (37), Nitin (30) and Deepak (30) -- were also arrested.
Rahul, who was arrested today, was Sunny's nephew, the police said. The seven men arrested earlier had not revealed about his involvement initially. Later, during their questioning, Rahul's name emerged.
The police said only a small portion of the stolen cash and jewellery was recovered as of now.
