Maoist cadre surrenders before police

A Maoist rebel, involved in several cases including the attack on NALCO's bauxite mine at Damanjodi in 2009 in which 11 CISF personnel were killed, today surrendered before the police in Malkangiri district.

The hardcore female Maoist, identified as K Lakshmi alias Sweta alias Kumari, was carrying a reward of Rs 4 lakh on her head, a senior police official said.

Malkangiri superintendent of police Jagmohan Meena said she will be provided with monetary assistance as per the 'Surrender and Rehabilitation Scheme' of the state government.

Financial assistance will also be provided to her for building a house, pursuing studies and obtain training in a trade/vocation of her choice, he said.

Kumar, a resident of Arabeti vullage under Kalimela Police Station limits, was working as an Area Committee Member of Gumma Area Committee of Malkangiri-Koraput-Vishakha-Border division (MKVB) under the Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) from 2008 to 2018.

She is the wife of Dhananjaya Gope of Gumma Area Committee of MKVB Division, the SP said.
