Maoist deputy commander surrenders in Odisha

Deputy commander of central regional committee of Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee, Section 1, Ramesh alias Raiman Pangi (28) surrendered in presence of DIG Sumendra Priyadarshi and Malkangiri SP Aniruddha Singh.

Section 2 of the central regional committee operated in AP, Singh said.

Ramesh, who had joined the organisation about 10 years ago and involved in operations in Odisha and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, said he decided to snap ties with Maoists after being ill-treated, humiliated and looked down upon by cadres from AP and Chhattisgarh.

Junior cadres from AP were given prominence and Odias who had spent several years with expertise in jungle warfare and other activities overlooked, and a a hate campaign was on in the organisation against Odia cadres, Ramesh claimed.

Several cases relating to Maoists crimes like attack on police stations and blastings were pending against him.

"I want to join the mainstream and help the people as a law abiding citizen", said Ramesh who belongs to Dotunguda under Chitrakonda police station in Malkangiri district.

Ramesh is the third hardcore Maoists to surrender in last two months after commander of Poplur Naxal Dalam, Parbin and his wife Nirmala, deputy commander of Poplur and Kalimela Dalam, doing so on March 4 and April 27 respectively.

Ramesh would be rehabilitated as per the package of the Odisha government for surrendered Maoists, Singh said.
