Maoist extortion threat to contractor

Suspected Maoists have allegedly threatened to kill a contractor engaged in the construction of an ITI building here, if he fails to pay them extortion money, the police said today.
The letter was found at the construction site of the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Kalidah village, following which a case was registered, they said.
"It was said in the letter that the contractor will be killed, if he failed to pay the extortion money. The naxals also threatened to kill his children and workers," Superintendent of Police (SP), City, J Jalareddy said.
The police was informed and an FIR was lodged against the unnamed Maoists today. Those who wrote the letter will be found, the officer said.
Following the incident, those associated with the project fear going ahead with the work. "However, we have assured them that they will be provided adequate security and protection", he said.
