Maoists allegedly killed two local men on the suspicion of they being police informers in two villages in the Rajnandgaon districtof Chhattisgarh.
Chandan Kirsam (51) and Vinod Salame (18) were beaten and strangulated to death by Maoists last night, district Superintendent of Police Prashant Agrawal told PTI.
The area falls under Aundhi police station limits, 180 km from the state capital Raipur.
A group of Maoists first entered Pendodi village and dragged Chandan Kirsam out of his house. He was thrashed and then strangulated with a rope, the SP said.
The group then went to adjacent Todke village and beat up Vinod Salame and his father Kotul Ram who were sleeping in their fields to guard their crop. The assailants fled after killing Vinod.
Security forces were rushed to the spot and a search operation has been launched to nab the assailants, the police officer said.
Kotul Ram was admitted to a local hospital.
On June 18, three Maoists including two women were killed in a gun-battle with police at Pendodi.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Maoists suspected that Chandan Kirsam and Vinod Salame had tipped off the police about their movement prior to the skirmish.
So far Maoists have killed four persons in the area suspecting them to be police informers following the Pendodi encounter, the officer said, adding that the killed men had no connection with police.
