Security forces are busy scourging areas to detect IEDs planted by the Maoists, apparently to disrupt polls in their pockets.
"(Detecting) IEDs are a challenge, and we have recovered (some) and getting information and feed back (in areas where IEDs may have been planted)," Inspector General of Police (Operation) M L Meena told PTI today.
Giving a brief of security measures taken in the run up to the three-phase elections for fourteen LS seats in Jharkhand on April 10, 17 and 24, Meena said the forces have made advance preparations to deal with naxalites, criminals and anti-socials elements.
He said wherever necessary assistance of ROP (road opening party) would be taken and extra forces would be deployed for area domination if there were indications of naxal presence.
"The Maoists only create violence," he said when asked how they influence the poll in their pockets. "We have adequate security forces."
Meena denied when asked whether there was any information of Maoists giving a poll boycott in the state.
According to police records there are at least six major naxal outfits in Jharkhand, including CPI (Maoist) and its splinter groups. The groups hide IEDs under culverts, roads and in other places, targeting the police.
Three policemen were injured during the day in Khunti following a landmine blast, suspectedly planted by the People's Liberation Front of India.
