July 16, 2012: Nasheed is formally charged with illegally ordering the arrest of a senior judge of the criminal court and move that led to widespread protests Aug 30, 2012: A government-appointed inquiry commission says Nasheed was not ousted as President in a coup as claimed by him and the transfer of power was legal. It added that the resignation of Nasheed was voluntary and of his own free will. Aug 31, 2012: Nasheed accepts the inquiry report but demands early polls. Oct 8, 2012: Nasheed arrested as he failed to appear before a court to face charges of abuse of power while in office. He faced charges of power abuse over the arrest and subsequent detention of Chief Criminal Judge Abdulla Mohamed during his last days in office. Oct 9, 2012: Nasheed was freed by the court and given 25 days to answer allegations of abusing power while in office. Feb 13, 2012: Nasheed seeks refuge in the Indian High Commission in Male, where he went immediately after issuance of an arrest warrant against him by a Maldivian court.
