"It is neither the first incident nor the last. Such Maoist incidents will continue to take place as long as a weak government remains in power," said JVM Chief Babulal Marandi when his attention was drawn to the burning of 14 vehicles by the ultras in Deruwan village in West Singhbhum district last night.
Vehicles were engaged in railway line construction work in the village, West Singhbhum Police Superintendent said.
The ruling coalition formed on the base of horse-trading was neither interested to address the cause of the people nor work for the development of the state, he said, adding, the ultras would continue to rule the roost as long as they were in power.
A similar incident had taken place in Kathikund police station area of Dumka district when Maoists torched about a dozen vehicles engaged in road construction work recently while the rebels had managed to take away their arrested colleagues in Gridih, he said.
None of the government headed by Arjun Munda, Madhu Koda or Sibu Soren had taken any step to curb Maoist activities and to improve the law and order situation in the state, a former Jharkhand Chief Minister Marandi said.
It was for the reason the ultras had succeeded to spread their base even in otherwise peaceful Santal Paragana region of the state today, Marandi said claiming Jharkhand did not have a single district which remained unaffected by the menace.
Asked whether Union government's proposed Saranda Action Plan in West Singhbhum district would help to address the problem, Marandi said whether it was Saranda Action Plan or any other plan, it had to be implemented by the state government which badly lacked will power to handle the situation.
Even Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh during a meeting in Parliament recently admitted nothing could be done in state like Jharkhand where the district administration took a year to disburse a cheque to a poor family under 'Indira Awas Yojana', Marandi claimed.
