On the World Marathi Day, the language found its echo in the Lok Sabha today with even Speaker Sumitra Mahajan associating.
Vinayak Raut (Shiv Sena), while taking up the matter of non-procurement of paddy in Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri districts of Maharshtra, spoke in Marathi, saying he was deliberately doing so as it was World Marathi Day.
His party colleage Arvind Sawant recited two poems of Jnanpith award winner Kusumagraj whose birth anniversary is observed as World Marathi Day.
In one of the poems, Kusumagraj has written as to how lawmakers and leaders should behave.
The Speaker, who hails from Maharashtra, thanked the members for raising the issue and remarked " I also understand a bit of Marathi".
