Marathi theatre actor Nandu Pol passes away

Veteran Marathi theatre actor and founder member of 'Theatre Academy', Nandu Pol today died at a private hospital here following prolonged illness, family sources said. He was 68.
Acclaimed for his performances in several plays, Marathi films and TV serials, Pol left a indelible mark on the landscape of Marathi theatre. He also contributed backstage as a professional sound recordist.
'Ghanshiram Kotwal', 'Tin Paishacha Tamasha' and 'Mahanirvan' were among the popular plays that he acted in.
Pol also acted in Marathi films such as "Samna", "Sinhasan", "Gadhavache Lagna" and "Pak Pak Pakak".
Reacting on Pol's demise, noted playwright, actor and theatre director, Satish Alekar said that Marathi theatre has lost a cheerful and delightful personality.
"Besides acting in plays, films and TV serials, he remained as a stable back stage artist in the form of professional sound recordist and as he had a keen understanding of Hindustani classical music, he used to pick up right kind of music for the right kind of situation," recalled Alekar.

Pol even penned his five-decade-long creative journey in his book 'Mi Nandu Pol'.
He is survived by son, who is also a sound recordist and a daughter who is a professional make-up artist.
Last rites of the actor will be performed in Pune later in the day.
