March violence: Bahrain announces USD 2.6mn in compensation

Khalid Hassan Ajaji, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice, made the announcement yesterday.

Each of the families of the 17 victims would get around USD 153,000.

The compensation initiative is being implemented under a Royal decree in an effort to promptly redress grievances caused by the recent unrest.

The Fund was designed to disburse compensation based on international best practices and in accordance with the United Nations Basic Principles and guidelines on the right to provide reparations for victims of gross violations of international human rights.
