With the Christmas around the corner, Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors has started 'We Care' campaign where its members will donate clothes, medicines and money to those affected by the devastating floods in Chennai.
"From today, we have started 'We Care' campaign which will serve as a small platform to provide help to those affected by the Chennai floods. Many resident doctors have already donated a lot of clothes, essential medicines and money for the cause," Dr Sagar Mundada, president of MARD, told reporters here today.
Clothes, medicines and money collected by December 31 will be donated to the flood victims.
Mundada also said that others interested in contributing for the cause can contact the local MARD offices at KEM, JJ, Nair, Sion, and Rajiv Gandhi Medical College Hospitals here.
"This has started with Christmas just around the corner. Rather than giving gifts and becoming secret Santa Clause for each other, let us do something for those who really need it at this time and help make their new year truly happy," he said.
"Let us do it together. Even a small contribution in any way will help. We anyway have the habit of just throwing away unwanted clothes and other stuff," he added.
The Centre recently accorded the status of 'severe nature' to the recent rains and floods disaster in Tamil Nadu in which 354 people lost lives and over one lakh people were rendered homeless.
