Marginal rise in temperature in North India

After a day's break, the monsoon showers returned to the national capital Delhi but provided little relief to Delhiites with the mercury remaining above normal and high humidity level.

While the maximum was recorded at 37.8 degrees Celsius, four degrees above normal, the minimum settled at 27.5, one degree above normal.

The city also experienced high humidity, recorded between 79 and 42 per cent.

In Uttar Pradesh, moderate rains and thundershowers soaked many places, bringing down day temperatures.

Places which received rains include Shardanagar, Handia, Jaunpur, Lucknow, Mirzapur, Ghosi, Robertganj, Ayodhya, Churk, Akbarpur, Varanasi, Dhauraha, Nighasan, Elginbridge, Gorakhpur and Shahjahanpur.

Heavy rains are expected at isolated places in eastern UP during the next 48 hours, the MeT office said.

Hot and humid conditions gripped Punjab and Haryana with the mercury breaching the normal level by a few notches in the region.

Chandigarh had a maximum of 34 degrees Celsius and over 80 per cent humidity level, the local MeT office said.

Punjab, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala saw a high of 37.4, 35 and 36.4 degrees Celsius respectively, all three notches above normal.

In Haryana, Ambala and Bhiwani recorded maximums at 36.1 and 38.2 degrees Celsius respectively, while Hisar and Rohtak had a high of 36.2 and 38.5 degrees Celsius. MORE
