Stepping up efforts to track down dreaded gangsters and hardened criminals in the city, Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria has asked the crime branch to prepare their list even as he stressed on upgrading anti-terror cells at various police stations here.
"I have instructed the Crime branch and all city police stations to get ready with a list of gangsters and hardened criminals so that we can catch them," Maria said today.
The city's new CP, who took charge on Sunday, held a marathon meeting with Senior Inspector and above rank officers yesterday and reviewed the present situation across the metropolis.
Stating that his department would provide all possible assistance to Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad, the senior IPS officer said, "Steps are being taken to improve co-ordination between anti-terror cells at police stations and state ATS."
The anti-terror cells would be also strengthened, he said, adding that, "The men in these cells would be encouraged in collection of intelligence. Those interested in taking up the cell's task would surely be shifted accordingly."
There will also be training sessions on gathering of human and technical intelligence soon, he added.
The city's top cop also said there would be visible presence of policemen on the streets in a bid to reduce street crimes as they are adopting zero tolerance towards street crimes.
"Night round patrolling will be increased. Mischief and indiscipline will not be tolerated in the department and the same time, good work would always be rewarded, he added.
