Dubbed 'the most important archive of iconic 20th century glamour and fashion photography' by auction house, the auction will sell celebrated photographer Milton H Greene's pictures of Monroe in an auction on July 27, said a release.
Greene first encountered Monroe on assignment for Look Magazine in 1953. When the 26-year-old Greene sent her proofs from their first sitting, Monroe "responded with two dozen roses and called to say they were the most beautiful pictures she had ever seen."
Before marrying playwright Arthur Miller, Monroe lived with Greene and his family in their Weston, Connecticut farmhouse during her hiatus in 1955. Greene captured some of the most celebrated photographs taken of Monroe during this period.
During their four years together, Greene photographed Monroe in 52 photographic sessions, from which 3,700 unpublished images are to be sold in this auction.
The auction also features works by eminent photographers such as Richard Avedon, Cecil Beaton, Irving Penn, and Norman Parkinson.
