Maritime Board office peon caught in bribery case

A peon working at the office of Inspector of Maritime Board at Dharamthar in Pen in the neighbouring Raigadh district was today arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000, the ACB officials said.
The peon Tukaram D Chavan, 52, had demanded Rs 3,000 from the complainant for some official work. Later, he agreed for Rs 2,800, Additional SP of ACB Srinivas Ghatge told PTI.
The complainant approached the Raigadh Unit of the ACB officials, who laid a trap and caught the peon accepting the bribe from the complainant at Wadkhal Naka in Pen this afternoon, the ACB said.
Offences under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 have been registered against Chavan, he said.
