Marked rebound in economy with PM at helm in Finance: Ashwani

"I can assure you that with the Prime Minister at the helm of affairs and leading the charge from the front as far as the economy is concerned, there will be a marked rebound in the economy, Kumar, minister of state for planning, told reporters here.

He said there was an upturn in the mood of the country.

The minister was asked about the reform agenda of the government with the Prime Minister taking charge of the economy from Mukherjee, who is contesting the Presidential elections.

"Already, in the last 7-10 days were are seeing the effect. The rupee has strengthened and come to Rs 54 (to a US dollar) from Rs 57 in the last four days. The sensex has rebounded and there is a mood which is actuated by hope which has been re-kindled and re-generated," Kumar said.

Kumar said in the days ahead there will be a concrete plan to put the economy back on track.

Mukherjee was named as UPA's Presidential candidate on June 15. He resigned as Finance Minister on June 26.
