Marriages of three minor girls stopped

The marriage of three minor girls scheduled to be held in this district next week has been stopped after it came to the notice of the authorities, officials said today.
District Collector, A S Hariharan, on getting information that marriages of three minor girls were going to be held this month at Pattampudur, Keppilingampatti and Thiruthangal in the district, ordered an inquiry, Special Branch Inspector Mahendra Pandian said.
An official of Social Welfare department and an Officer of Child Line who inquired about it, came to know that two marriages were fixed for June 9, while one on another date.
Officials on verifying the age proof of these girls from the certificates provided by their parents, found that all the three were less than 18 years.
They warned the girls' parents and got a written assurance from them stating that they would not go ahead with the marriage plans, the SP said.
