A married couple was arrested by a joint team of Delhi Police and RPF for allegedly drugging passengers on trains and stealing their belongings.
Police said that the accused have been identified as Neeto (26) and his wife Meenu (24), both residents of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Police said that their arrest solves four cases of theft after drugging.
The arrests came as part of a joint operation by Delhi Police and Railway Protection Force (RPF) in the wake of such thefts at railway stations in Delhi.
"The joint team was yesterday keeping watch at New Delhi railway station when they saw two women and two men with a child sitting on Platform No.1. After some time, the team noticed that the boy and a young woman who had just consumed tea appeared as if they were going to faint," said a senior police officer.
The officer said that in the meantime, one man and a woman in that group got up and started to leave the scene.
"The team caught the duo as they were trying to escape. It was found that they were a husband and wife pair which had drugged the other couple. The other couple later regained consciousness and disclosed that the accused persons, namely Neeto and his wife Meenu, had met them at the station and befriended them," the officer said.
"Neeto brought tea after consuming which the other couple started feeling unwell. Meenu then took a mobile phone and purse and wallet from the victims," police said, adding that the phone and other items containing voters' ID, Rs 725, etc. were recovered from the accused.
