The accused identified as Devender was arrested from the spot after some locals caught him and handed him over to a police team which was patrolling nearby.
"The incident took place around 12 noon when the victim, Dolly, was returning to her house. Devender came from behind and stabbed her twice in the abdomen near government school in Badli, when he tried to flee the locals chased him and also alerted a police patrolling team stationed nearby," said a police official.
"He then reprimanded Dolly and also beat up Devender threatening him of dire consequences. While Dolly snapped ties with him, Devender continued to pursue her. Even today he had stopped her on the road and was urging her to elope with him, when she refused and left in a haste, he stabbed her," he added.
Dolly and Devender both used to used to work as domestic helps in Badli and had come in contact with each other through a mutual friend.
