Ebert, 70, who has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, is widely considered to be America's most popular movie reviewer due to his turn as co-host of US TV show 'Ebert & Roeper', reported Daily Express.

He was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2002, limiting his ability to eat, drink, or speak, and last year he released his life story, 'Life Itself: A Memoir', which details everything from his battle with alcohol to his friendship with the stars.

And now, after decades of watching the works of other actors, Ebert will have his time to shine in a big screen adaptation of his own book.

Scorsese, 69, will executive produce with "Moneyball" star Steven Zaillian, while "Hoop Dreams" filmmaker Steve James will direct.
