Maruti's Manesar plant secured: Haryana Police

"The plant is completely secured here and whenever the company wants to open the plant and start production, it can," Joint Commissioner of Police Anil Kumar told reporters here.

He said about 1,300 policemen have been deployed inside the plant at present, adding nine of his personnel were injured in the yesterday's clash.

Gurgaon Police Commissioner K K Sindhu said 62 injured people have been discharged after primary treatment, while 23, including two Japanese, are still in different hospitals.

Earlier in the day, the company said its plants in the Manesar campus were closed on Thursday.

"We will shortly announce our decision on the next steps with regard to resuming operations in these facilities," the company said in a statement.

The company further said: "We are still assessing the total damage to property and facilities from the acts of arson. What is clear is that the office facilities have been burnt beyond repair, as have the main gate, security office and the fire safety section."

Maruti Suzuki's General Manager Human Resources Awanish Kumar Dev was charred to death in the violence in the Maruti car plant here allegedly triggered by workers yesterday.
