More than 100 motor racing enthusiasts will traverse through a multitude of dirt, tarmac, gravels and slippery tracks when the fifth edition of the Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare will kick off from here on August 4, covering a gruelling distance of 2000 km over five days.
After the ceremonial flag off from Phoenix Mall, Dakshin Dare will witness motorists race across dense forests, river beds, hill stations, wind mill farms, hair-pin bends, and tea & coffee plantations before the rally comes to an end here on August 9.
The Rally will have night halts at tourist hot spots like Mysore, Ooty and Coimbatore while it traverses through exotic locations like Chikmagalore, Waynad, Palani, Kodaikanal, Pollachi, Valparai among others.
The relentless monsoon showers in the region will, without doubt, prove to be daunting as the rallyists battle the curving, narrow roads snaking along Western Ghat and Nilgiris.
The fact that it passes through some of the leading hubs of Motorsports in India - Bangalore, Coimbatore and Coorg, therefore, the Dakshin Dare is definitely going to be action packed.
More than 100 participants in four wheelers and bikes have confirmed their participation at the time of closing of registration.
The rally targets to connect Maruti Suzuki with the youth and motoring enthusiasts of the southern states. The cars have already started arriving in the city for scrutiny that begins next weekend.
Nicknamed as "The Dare" by motorsports enthusiasts, four-wheelers have participation in two categories - 'Extreme' and 'Endurance'. For Corporates, there is a corporate sub category to which companies can send their employees' teams, with winners of the Maruti Suzuki Corporate Treasure Hunt from Southern India getting free entry.
