The biopic has been in development for years and Marvin Gaye III previously spoke out in 2012 to condemn the project and urge rocker Lenny Kravitz to step down from the lead role.
He called the producers and British director Julien Temple "very wrong and shameful" for making a project focusing on his father's struggles with drug abuse and depression in the later years of life.
He also wanted to make Kravitz, a childhood friend, aware that the family didn't support it and the rocker eventually dropped out, reported TMZ.
The late icon's son claims he has seen some of the footage and said the story is false, exploitative, filled with holes in the timeline and doesn't "hold the vibe of my father."

He has now got his lawyers involved in his bid to stop the release.
However, Benford said the project is still powering ahead and he has big stars lined up to record the soundtrack.
Gaye III and his sisters Nona and Frankie were famously awarded USD 7.3 million in 2015 after a jury in Los Angeles ruled Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams infringed on their father's copyright with their hit "Blurred Lines."
Gaye died in 1984, aged 44.
