Massive search for 'suspected' duo on eve of polling in Jammu

Amid high security alert in the wake of tomorrow's polling in Jammu Lok Sabha seat, forces today launched a massive search operation for two Maruti car-borne 'suspected' persons who broke through a police check-point on Jammu-Rajouri highway and then disappeared in the forest belt of Rajouri district after abandoning the vehicle.
A Maruti WagonR car bearing Haryana registration number was intercepted this morning at a check-point at Rajouri's Chingus area, which had been set up to keep an eye on movement of vehicles to and from Jammu, but the driver gave police the slip and fled the spot, a senior police officer told PTI.

Police sounded an alert and chased the vehicle, but it was later found abandoned in a forest area, about 10 km from Chingus, the police officer said.
According to eyewitness' account, the duo then boarded a passenger bus and got down from it a few kilometres ahead and disappeared in the forest area, the officer said, adding that police and other security forces have launched a massive search operation in the area to track down the duo.
The vehicle was seized and during search some documents and a packet containing some powder were recovered, the officer said, adding that the car belonged to one Sanjay Gupta of Shashtri Nagar in Jammu.

Gupta has been detained by Jammu Police and is being questioned. During interrogation, Gupta told police that the vehicle had gone missing but no report was filed with police.
The police officer said that the search operation was in progress and the matter was being investigated.
