"The custodian of a tree could tie a Rakhi around it with a pledge to protect and preserve it through his life," Anil Sharma, President of Yamuna Mission said.
In case an adopted tree is harmed, one can report it to the mission, he added.
The mission would convince a party to not cut the tree. However, if the party is adamant, the matter would be reported to district administration and forest department for further action, he said.
He said volunteers of the mission, who are acting as 'watch-and-ward-boy' of the trees, are approaching people, to adopt a plant or protect the trees.
Pilgrims may pay their obeisance to 'Giriraj Ji Maharaj', through their participation in the on-going "Green Belt" program in the ravines of Goverdhan hillock, already run by the mission, he concluded.
