According to the state meteorological department, Surendranagar city remained the hottest with a 45.5 degree C temperature, followed by Ahmedabad which touched 45 degrees C during the day, which is a degree more than yesterday.
Extreme heat conditions prevailed in Gujarat, as temperature in major towns and cities touched the 44 degree Celsius mark during the day.
Capital Gandhinagar recorded 44.8 degree centigrade, while Bhuj and Deesa town of Kutch as well as North Gujarat recorded 44 degree centigrade each, even as the temperature in Idar town touched 44.7 degree centigrade.
Extreme weather also took its toll, as two deaths were recorded in Ahmedabad yesterday due to the heat wave.
