Mayors of 6 MCs of Punjab to be elected by April 2

Punjab Local Bodies Minister Anil Joshi informed today that Mayors of the six municipal corporations would be elected till April 2.
Written instructions have been issued to the concerned six deputy commissioners of SAS Nagar Mohali, Bathinda, Moga, Hoshiarpur, Pathankot and Phagwara to make all necessary arrangements for the election of mayors till April 2, he said in a statement here.
He said that the MLA concerned would be eligible to take part in the election process and cast his/her vote.
Joshi further said that it would be mandatory to call first meeting of the elected representative by serving 72 hours prior notice to all elected members with intimation to the concerned MLAs.
He said that in the first meeting all the elected representative will take oath. Afterwards, including MLAs concerned would elect the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and other members.
It has also been instructed to send the details of the elected president to the Director of the Local Bodies for publication in government gazette.
Similarly the convener of the meeting would send the proceeding and minutes of the meeting, the statement added.
