Thespian Soumitra Chatterjee, who has essayed the role of father in numerous Bengali movies, says his character as the male parent to Prosenjit Chatterjee in the upcoming film 'Mayurakshi' is one he has not portrayed "in the past several years".
"On my part let me assert it is not a typical old age themed story where the character will invariably suffer from loss of memory. And let me say I had not portrayed such a role in past several years," the Dadasaheb Phalke Award winner said at the teaser launch of the film last night.
Directed by Atanu Ghosh, 'Mayurakshi' is slated for a December-end release.
"Mayurakshi talks about human relationship and human relationship is the spine of every cinematic work in different ways. But some films become more interesting to the audiences for taking a more intimate view in a more realistic manner," Soumitra said.
Ghosh's debut film 'Angshumaner Chhobi' in 2009 was a was a recipient of several national and international awards.
Prosenjit, who described Soumitra as "a father-figure", said, "I had worked with him (Soumitra) in numerous films in past, but here both of us play our real-life ages.

"We represent the same age as father and son in the film, our actual ages, and that is how it should have been and he is second to my father.
"Also when you share space with Soumitra Chatterjee before the camera in such a film and observe him closely it looks like you are attending course from an international film institute. He has such a vast acting repertoire and is a truly international actor."
The 'Moner Manush' actor added that the experience he gained by working with Soumitra this time around "will help me reinvent myself for another 15 years."
Ghosh said 'Mayurakshi' deals with a father shaping and moulding the vision of his son about life and how their perspectives change over the years.
"It was so touching to see the hearty relationship between the duo, who represent different generations, and the love, respect and mutual admiration they demonstrated at private moments behind the camera.
"I am sure no film had projected the duo in this way in past 15-16 years," he said.
Ghosh said his latest film draws inspiration from his close observation of people in real life.
"My previous films featured people I had seen in real life, but in Mayurakshi there are characters which I experienced in real life," he said.
The director has helmed films like Takhan Teish (2010), Rupkatha Noy (2013), Ek Phaali Rodh (2014) and Abby Sen (2015).
