The Mayurbhanj district administration has set up a Chhow Dance Academy here with an aim to train the artists on this folk dance tradition.
Mayurbhanj District Collector RP Patil inaugurated the academy in a function held at Saheed Smruti Bhavan last evening.
The academy was opened with three branches at Baripada, Rairangpur and Karanjia in Mayurbhanj district mainly aimed at training the artists.
The project would also showcase the classical Mayurbhanj form of chhow dance across different places besides providing livelihood to the poorly paid artists and the trainers.
A website www.Mayurbhanjchhau.Org and audio, video compact discs were also launched on the occasion.
