Their domestic league title hopes hanging by a thread after a string of poor shows, Mohun Bagan would look for solace by booking a knockout round berth when they take on Yangon United in an AFC Cup match here tomorrow.
Mohun Bagan had beaten the same opposition 3-2 in the first leg in Guwahati but they have come here without registering a win in three matches in the I-League which saw their title chances going up in smoke.
After the Guwahati match on March 16, the defending I-League champions have lost to arch-rivals East Bengal in the Kolkata derby played in Siliguri and then drawn against Shillong Lajong and DSK Shivajians.
With disappointment at the domestic front, Mohun Bagan players could come out determined to continue their unbeaten run and seal a round of 16 berth in the AFC Cup tomorrow itself.
Mohun Bagan are at the top of Group G with nine points after winning all the three matches they have played so far. Yangon and Maziya Sports & Recreation of Maldives are on four points each.
A win tomorrow will consolidate Mohun Bagan's position at the top of the group and seal a knockout berth in the continental tournament. They will, however, be without influential Haitian playmaker Sony Norde who aggravated his knee injury during the I-League match against DSK Shivajians.
Yangon United have also struggled this season and are now at the fourth place in the Myanmar National League-1 and they also suffered a disappointing 2-3 defeat against historic rivals Yadanarbon in a controversial match last week.
