A management student was today arrested for allegedly trying to kidnap a boy and threatening his father for ransom, police said.
Ahmed Raza, who is pursuing an MBA from a Chennai-based university, arrested for threatening one Shakti Kumar of Sonari area here over phone that he would abduct him and his four-year-old son.
Though Raza had no criminal record, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Amar Kumar Pandey alleged his activities were suspicious, which warranted police to launch a thorough investigation including checking his email account.
The DSP said Raza had also attempted to kidnap Kumar's son a few days ago when he was playing in front of his house.
However, he fled after the child started crying and local people assembled at the spot.
Raza, whose brother is a software engineer working in a Gulf country, also allegedly threatened Kumar to abduct, rape and kill his wife, the DSP said.
Based on the call made by Raza from a mobile phone to Kumar, a police team headed by Pandey conducted a raid and arrested Raza from Golmuri.
Police recovered three mobile phones including the one used to threaten Kumar, two extra sim cards, a fake voter ID card, a pan card and four ATM cards, Pandey said.
