The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has requested companies to take up initiatives such as adoption of schools, hospitals and villages as part of observing Swachhta Pakhwada, according to a communication.

The ministry, which is implementing the Companies Act and other laws, is observing Swachhta Pakhwada (cleanliness fortnight) from August 1 to 15.

"Activities undertaken during the Pakhwada may be sent to the ministry along with photographs," the ministry said in a communication posted on its website.

Noting that the corporate sector has always been a strong pillar of Swachh Bharat Mission, the ministry said it requests all companies to wholeheartedly participate in the Swachhta Pakhwada.

Companies have been requested to "take initiatives and promote innovative activities in their operational areas through adoption of schools, hospitals or villages, etc and make the Pakhwada grand success," it said.

There were more than 11.89 lakh active companies at the end of June this year, as per the latest official data.
