MCD bypolls:Over 6 lakh voters to decide fate of 95 candidates

Over six lakh electorate will decide the fate of 95 candidates in the high-stake MCD bypolls to 13 wards on May 15.
There are a total of 6,68,870 voters entitled to exercise their franchise in the by-elections for wards falling under three municipal corporations - SDMC (7), NDMC(4) and EDMC(2)- in the national capital, Delhi State Election Commissioner Rakesh Mehta said in a statement today.
Voting will be held from 8 am to 5 pm. Counting of votes will be held on May 17 and begin at the counting-centres established in the 13 wards from 8 am.
Appointed returning officers will conduct elections in the 13 wards while observers will oversee the poll arrangements as well as peaceful progression of the voting.
Thirteen election expenditure observers have also been deployed to check the money being spent by the candidates and all entries of such expenditure have been shown in their respective registers.
Voting will be held at 694 polling stations each being manned by a polling team comprising a presiding officer, three polling officers and one class IV employee.

Hundred sector officers assisted by 100 sector police officers equipped with wireless sets connected to the Central Control Room in Commission's Office will be delivering Electronic Voting Machines at every polling station and supervise the poll throughout the day of voting.
Campaigning for the polls will end at 5 am on May 14.
The by-polls in the 13 wards were necessitated by the elections of sitting councilors as MLAs in the Assembly elections in 2013 and 2015.
