MCD engineers arrested by CBI from Jaipur hotel

CBI today arrested two engineers of North Delhi Municipal Corporation who went into hiding after the arrest of the Managing Director of Micromax mobiles for allegedly paying bribe to civic body officials for clearance to his banquet hall.
CBI sources said Superintendent Engineer Rajesh Wadhwa and Assistant Engineer M K Gupta were arrested from a Jaipur hotel where they were allegedly hiding after agency's searches.
On August 7, CBI had carried out searches at 15 locations in connection with the bribery scandal arresting the then Managing Director of Micromax mobiles, Rajesh Agarwal, along with bribe money of Rs 30 lakh which was allegedly meant for Wadhwa and other engineers and junior staff.
After the arrest, Agarwal stepped down Aas MD.
"Rajesh Agarwal, co-founder, Micromax Informatics Limited has stepped down from his duties and recused himself from the responsibilities. He will focus on the legal proceedings to clear his name of the alleged charges," Micromax had said in a statement after the arrest.
In the statement, the company clarified that Manish Tuli has no association with the company.

"Rajesh Agarwal was present in his personal capacity with Manish Tuli," it said.
It was alleged that bribe was given to the engineers for clearance to a banquet hall construction in Wazirpur area.
After catching Agrawal, Manish Tuli and two MCD officials "red-handed", CBI teams carried out searches in which they had recovered cash worth Rs 74 lakh and jwellery from the residence of an MCD Junior Engineer Kapil Dev besides Rs 37 lakh from the house of arrested baildar of MCD.
