MCI approves gynaecology course at Srinagar medical college

The Medical Council of India (MCI) has accorded approval to diploma course in Gynaecology and Obstetrics at Government Medical College in Srinagar which will help in extending healthcare facilities to women in the state, Jammu and Kashmir minister Taj Mohiuddin said today.
Mohiuddin, state minister for medical education, said the MCI has accorded to sanction for starting the diploma course from this year.
The minister said he had been pleading for the start of the course in view of the heavy rush and deficiency of trained staff in gynaecology in the state.
Mohiuddin directed the officials concerned to refer 12 vacancies in DGO to Board of Professional Entrance Examinations so that selection process of candidates and the course is started at the earliest.
"The start of the course at GMC would help in overcoming the shortage of gynaecologists and obstetrics in the state which are in huge demand particularly in rural and hilly areas," he added.
