Delhi's first municipal-run medical college at Hindu Rao Hospital has hit a roadblock with the Medical Council of India (MCI) refusing to renew its licence for the new academic session 2014-15.
MCI officials had recently conducted an inspection of the medical college and found that facilities at the institution were not as per the standards following which it has been decided not to renew its licence, according to MCI sources.
A senior North Delhi Municipal Corporation official said the step by the MCI was possibly taken due to some shortcomings in the infrastructure and facilities which they have already begun to address now.
"Though we haven't received any formal intimation in this regard from the MCI but our corporation will try and remove the shortcoming due to which we believe the step was taken by the medical body," the official said.
Following the medical body's decision, the college administration has also started working towards controlling the situation.
The college was started ten months ago and due to the elections the development works were put on hold.
