The Mumbai District Football Association has made a bid for the National Centre of Excellence proposed to be set by the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
MDFA president Aaditya Thackeray revealed this at the Grassroots Development Summit 2017, organised by the Mumbai City Football Club, on Sunday.
"I have asked the Maharashtra government to hand over a plot in Bandra Kurla Complex for us (for MDFA)," Aaditya was quoted as saying in a media release.
"We believe Maharashtra has the potential to become the new footballing hub for the country," he said.
Aaditya, son of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, said apart from Mumbai Football Arena in Andheri and Neville D'Souza Football Turf at Bandra Reclamation, he was keen on creating two more facilities, at the BKC and in Worli.
"I have already sought a reservation in the Development Plan for a football ground in Worli. The goal is to bring football back to Mumbai," he added.
