Releasing video clips and CCTV footages purportedly showing brutality against media persons in Agra, Varanasi, Etah, Kanpur and Shahjahanpur districts of the state, BJP demanded that the Chief Minister checked attack on the "fourth pillar of democracy".
"Media persons are pointed out and assaulted. Police cannot give the excuse that it was done unknowingly. Journalists carrying cameras are singled out and assaulted," BJP state president Laxmi Kant Bajpai said.
"We have sufficient evidence. Guilty policemen will be identified and the party fight a legal battle to get them punished," he said.
The UP BJP chief also threatened to launch a state-wide agitation if the government fails to take stern action against erring policemen.
