Powered by the latest Android OS, Italy's MediaCom, a mobile brand owned by Datamatic, launched its new generation smartphone in the city.

Claiming that MediaCom's smartphones are equipped with the latest chipsets and other hardware proficiencies, yet to be introduced in the Indian market, MediaCom CEO Harbinder Singh Dhaliwal said the company is targetting the young generation in the country.

With featured phones' prices starting from Rs 700 and smartphones ranging from Rs 3,999 to Rs 17,000, MediaCom has already sold around 50,000 units since its launch in June this year, he said adding that the company was also planning to launch 4G devices soon.

Launched in Delhi, Haryana, and Faridabad, the MediaCom CEO appeared quite optimistic about the brand's future in the country.

Asked about companies which it considered its competitors in the smartphone sector, MediaCom Working Partner Kaushik Mandal said, "With such quality and price band, we actually do not have anyone to compete with, but still there would be a close fight with brands like Gionee, Xolo, and VIVO."

Talking about the USP of its product, Mandal said, "Of course technology, build and finish are of European standard. As far as the design is concerned Italy is famous for fashion and design, so are MediaCom phones."

Asked about the company's future business plans, Mandal said, "Since our company runs on strong system oriented processes we believe in slow but steady growth. Once the platform is ready we will drive the business in its full swing."

MediaCom, with all its products designed and engineered in Italy, was likely to start manufacturing them in the country once the Make in India mission is initiated.

"We are a participant of Make in India mission. Till the project starts all the products are designed and engineered in Italy," Mandal said.
