Medical College and Hospital lacks burn unit

There is no separate burn unit at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in this south Odisha city which might be a problem as the number of burn cases goes up during Diwali.
"The doctors in emergency duty will treat burn patients too. We have not made any special arrangements for the Diwali festival," Superintendent of the medical college A K Behera said.
"In case, the flow of patients rises substantially, we will intimate the head of department for more doctors and para medical staff to attend to burn victims," he said.
At present, they are being treated in the surgery ward. "We have alerted doctors in peripheral hospitals to attend to casualties on Diwali," said Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Ganjam, Niranjan Behera.
No special arrangements have been made in rural hospitals for Diwali.
Opthalmologists have warned people to take care of their eyes while bursting fire crackers. "Some people had lost their vision in the past while bursting crackers," said B Nageswar Rao Subudhi, a professor in the medical college.
People should not try to burst cracker the second time if it fails in the first attempt, Subudhi said adding that most people who do so sustain burns as crackers suddenly burst.
