"We have no other option but to go on strike if the state government fails to consider our various demands," Bihar Health Services Association (BHSA) general secretary Ajay Kumar and the secretary-cum-spokesperson Ranjit Kumar told reporters.

The agitating medicos also took out rallies in support of their demands like regularisation of contractual doctors and strengthening health directorate, besides creation of adequate medical infrastructure in Bihar.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Ashwani Chaube said the state government will deem as illegal leave by the medicos if they proceeded on strike and an advertisement will be put out in newspapers tomorrow to this effect.

Appealing to medicos not to go on strike, he said they have set up a three-member committee which will submit a report soon on their demands.

Chaube, however, said the state government is ready with alternative arrangements if the doctors went ahead with the stir.

He said the district magistrates and the district civil surgeons have been directed to take stringent actions against those disrupting medical services in the government hospitals and initiate action against such doctors.

Chaube also expressed concern at the widening gender ratio and said that a campaign will be launched to save the newborn girl children, besides reduction in neonatal and mother mortality rate in Bihar.
