Medium sugar surges on higher demand

Medium sugar prices surged at the Vashi wholesale market here today due to heavy demand from stockists and retailers amidst ensuing festivities.
While, small sugar prices held steady in the absence of any worthwhile buying.
Medium sugar (M-30) climbed by 16/10 per quintal to Rs 3,172/3,352 from Wednesday's closing level of 3,156/3,342.
Following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:
Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 3,172/3,352 (Rs 3,156/3,342).
Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 3,052/3,145 (Rs 3,052/3,145).
