BJP in Meghalaya has reorganised the party's state executive committee by inducting in it 12 tribal faces in view of the Assembly election next year.
"We have inducted 12 tribal executive members of the party in the executive committee at the party meeting last evening. The decision was taken in view of the party getting ready for the 2018 elections," state BJP chief Shibun Lyngdoh told PTI.
Of the 16 executive members of the party elected yesterday, Lyngdoh, who retained the post of party president, said there are only four non-tribals.
He said that tribal faces were required as the party would field candidates in all the 60 seats in the 2018 elections.
Lyngdoh said that BJP national executive meeting held at Bhubaneshwar had given him the power to reorganise the state executive committee and bring in as much tribal leaders as possible.
Former MLAs Edmund Sangma and J A Lyngdoh who joined the party recently were made vice-president and spokesperson respectively.
