Meghalaya today celebrated the 8th National Voters Day under the theme "Accessible Elections".
Additional Chief Secretary P S Thangkhiew in his address at the state-level celebration said the fact that 3683 differently abled voters have enrolled out of the total 18,31,000 voters in the state speaks volumes of the voter's day.
Assembly election in Meghalaya will be held in February 27.
He said that it is important to note that we are looking at an event where we are going forward at providing access to the citizens of the state who are less fortunate and are deprived of most of the rights entitled to them.
"They are the assets of the society, empowering them and providing them access is a way by which they can contribute for a better society and also make this whole exercise in the election process a success," he said.
The election department also felicitated the visually impaired footballers - Klingson D. Marak and Gabriel Nongrum who are the members of the Indian Blind Football Team.
The department also felicitated distributed voters ID cards to the Millennium Voters - voters who are born on January 1 in the year 2000 and have attained the age of 18 on the first day of this year.
