"We intend to open more new police outposts along the inter-state border as well as upgrade existing police outposts to full fledged police stations," Mukul told the Assembly here today.
"A mechanism for periodic meetings between district magistrates, police and other district officials of the border districts of India and Bangladesh has also been introduced," he said.
The BSF also works in close liaison with the state police and hold periodic meetings at regular interval for sharing of information on any possibility of criminal activities on the international border.
Along the International border with Bangladesh, the state government has also set up 12 police stations, 10 patrol posts, 11 check posts, four additional check posts, three passport check posts, three watch posts and an outpost, the Chief Minister said.
On the Assam-Meghalaya border, the Chief Minister said, apart from the mechanism of joint meetings between the chief minister and chief secretaries of the two states, the designated nodal officers of Meghalaya and Assam and the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police of the concerned districts hold meetings from time to time to sort out issues.
