"The police department has proposed that 17 additional police stations need to be set up in eastern parts of the state along the inter-state and international border areas," the chief minister said in the Assembly.
Meghalaya, which shares a 443-km stretch of border with Bangladesh, would also set up new police units at a cost of Rs 307 crore, he said.
In areas under dispute with Assam, it was bilaterally agreed that development works would continue with mutual consent, Sangma said.
