The maiden seaplane service by Maritime Energy Heli Air Services (Mehair) to Nashik, which was to be launched today, had to be postponed owing to heavy rains in Mumbai last night that resulted in moisture in non-critical components of the Cessna 208A amphibian aircraft.
"The regional air connectivity to be launched between Nasik and Pune had to be rescheduled owning to heavy rains in Mumbai last night which resulted in moisture ingress in some of the non-critical components of the aircraft," Mehair Co-founder and Director Siddharth Verma said here.
He said the aircraft could have still been ferried without any problem from Mumbai to Nashik to start the Pune-Nashik service, and the decision to postpone the launch was taken as a precautionary measure.
"The proposed flights between Nashik-Pune-Nashik can and will operate during the rest of the monsoon season as well. The moisture ingress this time is a one-off situation which can happen with any aircraft caught unexpectedly in the open during heavy rain and strong winds," he said, adding that it will soon announce the new inaugural date.
Flights between these two centres--Lohagaon in Pune and HAL Airport in Nashik--are likely to reduce travel time of the people from up to seven hours down to barely 50 minutes.
Mehair has planned to operate the service on the route thrice in a day.
The company has fixed a fare of Rs 5,999 for the service, which will be applicable till June 30. However, from July 1, the fares will increase to Rs 6,999.
