Mehta registered a comprehensive 3-1 victory over Varun Kumar of Tamil Nadu.
Kumar started off well with a break of 60 to take the first frame. In the next frame, Mehta bounced back with 57 to draw level at 1-1, and then also won the next frame comfortably.
Mehta wrapped up the last frame by registering his win with a break of 90.
Mehta has 2 more games in the group. There are some big names at the event like current World Amateur champion Hosein Vafaei of Iran, Thailand's former World U-21 champ Noppon Saekham, former pro Andy Lee from Hong Kong with other international players as well as the top 8 of the country.
