MEIL begins operation of Kaleshwaram projects pumping station

: Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) has commenced operations of the underground pumping station of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) at Laxmipur.

The pump house, touted to be the world's largest, was named after Goddess Gayatri.

It successfully completed the wet-run on Sunday night. Around 3000 cusecs of water rose to over 111 metres and flowed into mid-Manair through the gravity canal, a press release said on Monday.

Telangana Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao is expected to inaugurate the pumping station constructed 470 feet below the ground on August 14, the release said.

"This is an extraordinary underground pump-house, 470 feet below the ground with twin tunnels and the largest surge pools in the world. This is an ultra-mega project having seven motors each having a capacity of 139 megawatts.

These motors can lift 3 TMC of water per day.

"This is the true example of 'Make in India' as these gigantic motors are developed in the country with the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technology," MEIL director B Srinvas Reddy said.

Megha Engineering Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) with 30 years of technical expertise in such complex and high-end electro-mechanical works has been executing this project as a mission to deliver water to the farmlands in time and quench the thirst of the people Telangana, the company said.
